Short-term let existing host information

You can still operate temporarily

You can continue using this accommodation as a STL after 1st October 2022, but you must apply to the Council for a licence by Saturday 30 September 2023. We recommend that Hosts apply by 31 August 2023. If you apply by then, you can continue offering this accommodation as a STL - until the Council have decided to grant or refuse the licence.

If you have not applied for a licence by Saturday 30 September 2023, you must:

  • stop using the accommodation as a STL
  • apply to the Council for a licence

You can only start using the accommodation as a STL again if and when the Council grant the licence.

Existing Hosts Confirmation Scheme

You might have a Confirmation under North Ayrshire Council's Existing Hosts Confirmation Scheme.

  • The 'Confirmation Request' form was not a 'Licence Application'.
  • The 'Confirmation' was not a Licence.
  • The issue by the Council of Confirmation is not a warranty that the Transitional Provisions apply.
  • You still need to apply for a licence by Saturday 30 September 2023.

Why do the Council ask about this accommodation?

We ask this question because the rules ("Transitional Provisions") only cover people who are existing hosts in relation to that accommodation, so we can only give you the confirmation you request if:

  • you can answer 'yes' to that question
  • you give us the documentary evidence described in the request form to support your claim

If you got the accommodation after 30th September 2022 then you do not qualify as an existing host in relation to that accommodation, even if:

  • the person who owned it before you would have qualified
  • you have inherited it after 30th September 2022 from someone who has died and he or she would have qualified
  • you qualify in relation to other accommodation
