Change of address or tenancy

You must notify the council of your change of address.

Moving within North Ayrshire

You will need,

if you owned the property:

  • the date the sale of the property was completed
  • new owner's full name
  • your forwarding address
  • the dates for any period the property was empty and unfurnished

if you rented the property:

  • the date your tenancy agreement ended - to ensure your Council Tax is charged correctly, it is important for us to end your tenancy on the correct date. If you are liable for rent and Council Tax up to and including the end date of your tenancy, you must add a day to this when you notify us of your tenancy end date. For example, for a tenancy end date of 28 May, please provide 29 May as the tenancy end date for Council Tax to be charged up to and including the 28 May
  • your landlord or managing agent's name and address
  • your forwarding address
  • the dates for any period the property was empty and unfurnished

Use this form if you own or rent a property in North Ayrshire and are moving to another property in North Ayrshire that you will own or rent.

You will need,

if you own the property:

  • the date the purchase of the property was completed
  • previous owner's forwarding address if known
  • the dates for any period the property was empty and unfurnished

if you rent the property:

  • the date your tenancy agreement started
  • your landlord or managing agent’s name and address
  • the dates for any period the property was empty and unfurnished

Use this form if you are aged 18 or over and are moving from living with family or friends to your own property in North Ayrshire.

Moving in

You will need,

if you owned the property:

if you rented the property;

Use this form if you are aged 18 or over and are moving out of your property to live with family or friends, even if your new address in in North Ayrshire.

Moving out

Change of tenant

Landlords, or Managing Agents, must notify us when a tenant moves into, or out of, a property. 

You must ensure that the information you provide is accurate and correct. When ending a tenancy, any Council Tax due is calculated to the day before, eg tenancy end date 15 July, Council Tax is charged up to and including 14 July. Please consider this rule when entering the tenancy end date on the change of tenancy form.

Complete and return a Change of tenancy form (Word, 131kb) or call.

Tenant moving out of your property

You will need:

  • the full name(s) of the tenant(s)
  • the date the tenancy ended (please note, Council Tax is calculated to the day before a change of liability. For example Council Tax will be charged up to and including 14 July for a tenancy end date of 15 July)
  • the date the tenant moved out of the property (if different from the tenancy end date)
  • the tenant's forwarding address
  • details of any other adults over the age of 18 who lived in the property and their relationship to the tenant eg son, relative

Tenant moving into your property

You will need:

  • the full name of the tenant(s)
  • the date the tenancy started
  • the date the tenant moved into the property (if different from the tenancy start date)
  • the tenant's previous address
  • details of other adults over the age of 18 who will be living in the property with the tenant
  • whether the new tenant(s) is/are full-time student(s), if known 
  • whether the new tenant(s) is/are claiming Council Tax Reduction or Housing Benefit, if known
