North Ayrshire Council has placed Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at council facilities across North Ayrshire including:
- all schools
- community centres
- key libraries and heritage sites
- housing offices
- social services offices
- a number of corporate sites and depots.
Units are stored in cabinets, usually internally, but some are external and available 24 hours a day for public use. Please see AED locations.
What is an Automated External Defibrillator?
An Automated External Defibrillator, sometimes called a 'defib', is a small portable device that delivers an electrical shock to the heart during Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
It can be used as a first aid tool when carrying out Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or heart massage.
It can be used on adults and children aged 1 year and above (an infant key is needed for use on children).
