Duties towards passengers in wheelchairs

Some taxis and private hire vehicles have a wheelchair logo on their licence plates.

This means that if you're a driver of one of these designated vehicles (Excel, 20kb), you have duties towards passengers in wheelchairs (PDF, 115kb).

You can ask the Council to exempt you from the wheelchair duties using this form (Word, 72kb).

We will decide if it is appropriate to do so:

  • on medical grounds
  • on the grounds that your physical condition makes it impossible or unreasonably difficult for you to comply with those duties

We do not charge for this. However, you must meet the cost of a medical report or any other evidence needed to support the application.
