Empty property charges
Extra charges apply to your Council Tax if your property:
- is not a second home, purpose-built holiday home or job-related accommodation
- is not a dwelling which is undergoing, or requires, major repair work to render it habitable, or
- is not a dwelling which is undergoing structural changes
- has been unoccupied for over 12 months and is not up for sale or rent, or
- has been marketed for sale or rent and has been unoccupied for two years or more
200% is the total charge for an empty property, unoccupied for more than 12 months, or up to two years, if marketed for sale or rent. This is 100% Council Tax, based on the Valuation band of the property, and 100% long term empty property levy.
If unoccupied for more than 12 months, but less than 24 months, and marketed for sale or rent, complete and return our Council Tax levy relief form document. The application details the proof that you should submit with the form.
