Festive waste services changes

Changes to our bin collection and Household Waste Recycling Services during the festive period.

Bin collection changes

On the mainland and Cumbrae domestic and commercial bins due for collection on:

  • Thursday 25 December will be collected two days later on Saturday 27 December
  • Friday 26 December will be collected two days later on Sunday 28 December
  • Thursday 1 January will be collected two days later on Saturday 3 January
  • Friday 2 January will be collected two days later on Sunday 4 January

On Arran there will be no changes to domestic or commercial bin collection days over the Festive period.

Please note: The last collection of brown bins for residents in 2025 will be Friday 19 December 2025, this service will restart on Monday 5 January 2026.

The actual time of collection may vary during the Festive period, please put your bin out for 7am. If adverse weather affects your area we will return to collect your bin when possible. If your normal collection day does not fall on these days, it will be unaffected and remain the same.

Real Christmas tree collection

The mainland and Cumbrae waste teams will collect real Christmas trees (in 5 Feet or less sections) from beside your brown bin from 12 January 2026 over the next two week collection cycle. Check your collection calendar to see what dates we are collecting in your area.

On Arran real Christmas trees can be deposited at the Brodick Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) changes

On the mainland our HWRCs will have extended opening hours of 9am to 5.30pm on:

  • 22 December
  • 23 December
  • 27 December
  • 28 December
  • 29 December
  • 30 December

The last available booking slot on these days will be at 5pm.

Please note: these extended opening hours do not apply to our Arran HWRC.

Our mainland and Arran HWRCs will have limited hours and be closed on:

  • 24 December - closes at 2pm
  • 25 December - closed
  • 26 December - closed
  • 31 December - closes at 2pm
  • 1 January - closed
  • 2 January - closed

The last available booking slot on a 2pm closure day is 1.30pm.

Please note: Our Largs HWRC is closed every Wednesday and Thursday, so there will also be no slots available in Largs on the Wednesdays of the 24 and 31 December 2025.

Bank details

From 1 September 2025, North Ayrshire Council changed banking provider from Virgin Money to Royal Bank of Scotland. All payments to the council should now be made to Royal Bank of Scotland and new bank details for each service can be found within the relevant service pages on the website.

All Council Tax payers who have made a payment electronically or by Standing Order from 1 April 2025 to any financial year account, will have received a letter confirming the details of the new bank accounts. These can be confirmed under the Standing Order section of our Pay Council Tax page

If you are uncertain of the changes or receive any suspicious emails or communications in relation to the change of bank accounts, please contact our Customer Services team on 01294 310000 or our Finance team via email at cashiers@north-ayrshire.gov.uk to confirm the payee details to be used.
