Approved premises

Food Hygiene law requires certain food businesses who handle unprocessed products of

animal origin to be approved by the Local Authority in which they are based.

If you operate premises within North Ayrshire which manufacture or handle any of the following products you should contact us to find out if your business requires to be approved:

Some premises will be exempt from the requirements but if you are sure that your premises require to be approved, you can complete the Application for Approval Form (Word, 263kb). You can also email us at environmentalhealth@north-ayrshire.gov.uk.

The approval form requires to be accompanied by various documents to support your application. Please email these to Environmental Health or, alternatively, the documents can be posted to us at:

North Ayrshire Council
Economy and Communities
Environmental Health
Cunninghame House
KA12 8EE

On receipt of your application form or approval enquiry, Environmental Health will contact you and arrange to inspect your premises and Food Safety Management System.

Once your business is approved or conditionally approved, you will be issued with a unique identification number with which all approved products must be labelled before being placed on the market for sale.

Food Standards Scotland maintains an up-to-date list of all approved premises in Scotland.
