Food Hygiene law requires certain food businesses who handle unprocessed products of animal origin to be approved by the Local Authority in which they are based.
If you operate premises within North Ayrshire which manufacture or handle any of the following products you should contact us to find out if your business requires to be approved:
- shellfish (PDF, 86kb)
- fishery products
- minced meat or meat preparations
- meat products
- dairy products
- eggs
Some premises will be exempt from the requirements. If your premises need to be approved, please complete an Application for Approval (Word, 269kb).
Completed forms and supporting documents should be emailed, or posted, to the address below.
On receipt of your application form or approval enquiry, Environmental Health will contact you and arrange to inspect your premises and Food Safety Management System.
Once your business is approved, or conditionally approved, you will be issued with a unique identification number with which all approved products must be labelled before being placed on the market for sale.
Food Standards Scotland maintains a list of approved premises in Scotland.
