Energy efficiency support expands in North Ayrshire

Homeowners in eligible areas of North Ayrshire can now benefit from grant supported energy efficiency improvements through a scheme offering a range of measures to reduce energy costs, increase comfort and lower carbon emissions.
Current projects are underway in Cumbrae, Arran and the St Winning’s Well area of Kilwinning, with new projects launching in Beith, Kilbirnie, Irvine, Largs, Saltcoats and Stevenston.
Available measures include:
- cavity wall
- solid wall insulation
- electric heating solutions
- loft insulation and
- solar panels (where electric heating or solid wall insulation is also being installed).
The scheme is funded by the Scottish Government through its Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes (ABS) programme, which supports local authorities in tackling fuel poverty.
North Ayrshire Council has secured funding to continue improving the energy efficiency of privately owned and privately rented homes.
Eligible households will receive a letter of invitation from the Council’s project managing agent, M-Four, outlining the scheme and how to register interest. A full list of eligible postcodes is available on the Energy pages of the Council website.
To qualify, properties must:
- be located within designated project areas
- be in Council Tax bands A to C, or band D with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F or G (EPC ratings will be checked by M-Four) and
- be privately owned or privately rented
Private tenants can apply with their landlord’s permission, provided the landlord owns no more than three properties.
Quote: This Scottish Government funding, which is managed by the Council and delivered by our partners, offers a great opportunity for residents to save money on their bills. The scheme helps to make homes cheaper to heat, helps residents to cut their carbon footprint and tackles fuel poverty while improving residents’ health and well-being by making homes warmer. If you are a homeowner or private tenant who is struggling to heat your home, you could be eligible for support. I would encourage residents to get in touch to find out more.

M-Four will also host local drop-in events to provide further information, explain suitable measures, and highlight the potential benefits for households.
Over the past 13 years, North Ayrshire Council’s ABS programme has delivered energy efficiency improvements to more than 2,800 homes.
The Council is working in partnership with Home Energy Scotland – funded by the Scottish Government and M-Four Ltd, the project managing agent.
How to apply: Phone Home Energy Scotland. They provide free, impartial advice and will register your interest.
M-Four will then assess your eligibility and provide assistance moving forward. M-Four can also be contacted by telephone or by email.
If your area is not currently included, you can use Home Energy Scotland’s online funding tool to explore other support options available.
All projects are delivered in line with Scottish Government guidance and are targeted at areas where support can have the greatest impact.
Council’s ABS is dependent on continued funding being awarded. While every effort is made to progress proposed projects, some may be subject to change or delay.
The support and measures available can also vary to reflect the needs of different areas and property types.
