Safe camping and motorhome use
North Ayrshire is a popular destination for campers and caravan and motorhome users. There are a variety of parks and spaces for camping as well as motorhomes. Below you will find information on best practice.
Wild camping is allowed, where access rights apply, under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. This is subject to campers showing responsible behaviour as defined in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Where possible, use public toilets. If you cannot access public toilets, follow guidance from the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.
Wild camping guidance is available.
If visiting North Ayrshire via caravan or motorhome, be advised that sleeping in motorhomes, campervans or caravans is only allowed:
- in a campsite
- in an aire
- in a car parking area that permits this activity
- with a landowner's permission
We strongly encourage planning ahead for your visit so you can find the facilities you need and keep North Ayrshire looking its best for other visitors as well. To help with this, refer to the guidance below.
Waste disposal guidance
Where possible, and especially if visiting the islands of Cumbrae or Arran, it is recommended that you take your litter home with you or use one of North Ayrshire's designated recycling points.
For guidance on waste disposal, see the Campa website.
