Report fly tipping or posting
To report fly tipping, or posting, tell us where it is and what it is.
Our teams remove litter, illegally dumped waste, and antisocial debris from public areas.
Fly tipping
Fly tipping is illegal dumping of waste on land, or in water. Waste is usually dumped to avoid disposal costs.
Large amounts of domestic waste should not be deposited either in or to the side of a public litter bin. A fixed penalty or additional charge to service the bin can be imposed.
Report fly tipping formFly posting
Fly posting usually involves posters, stickers, or signs that are displayed without the permission of the property owner.
It is a criminal offence to attach anything to council street furniture without seeking prior permission. This includes posters relating to missing pets.
Before any advert is displayed, you should email the Environmental Enforcement Team for further advice.
Report fly posting formFixed penalties
Working alongside Enforcement Officers, we carry out regular patrols throughout North Ayrshire. These officers can issue fixed penalty notices.
The penalty fine for:
- fly tipping is £500
- fly posting is £80
Failure to remove waste after a fixed penalty has been issued may result in an extra charge for removal and disposal costs.
Failure to pay a fixed penalty can result in action by Sheriff Officers or the Procurator Fiscal. If you are prosecuted, you may face a jail term and up to a £40,000 fine. Vehicles used to carry out the crime can be seized and destroyed.
