Youth forum for New Scots in North Ayrshire

Do you want to speak truth to power? Would you love to meet young people like you in your community?
Have you been looking for a chance to shape plans and policies for young people?
If you are aged between 16-25 you can do all of the above in our new North Ayrshire New Scots Youth Forum.
If you are a New Scot, this is a chance to make your voice heard on issues important to you and put your voice and perspective at the forefront of North Ayrshire Council’s decision-making process for young New Scots across our six localities.
New Scots are people who have come to Scotland to live, including refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants.
If you are a New Scot living, working or studying in North Ayrshire you have the chance to get involved. All you need to do is email: youthwork@north-ayrshire.gov.uk to register your interest.
Meeting fortnightly at Ardeer Youth and Community Centre (6.30pm-8pm), the New Scots Youth Forum will offer a safe and inclusive space for New Scots youth participation and getting involved in local projects and initiatives for young people.
This will be a chance to join our dedicated ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Locality Link Worker responsible for providing opportunities for New Scots young people alongside youth work representatives from across North Ayrshire’s six localities.
Young people will help shape the group to work on projects and prioritise that are important to them. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Quote: We are calling on young people who identify as New Scots to get involved now. We are proud to welcome New Scots to North Ayrshire however we understand that living here is likely to be a huge change for you and we want to provide safe and supportive spaces where you can continue to embrace your own culture and share your experiences to help shape a North Ayrshire that New Scots feel proud to live in. This is the first ever New Scots Youth Forum in North Ayrshire, however we have other groups too that you can find out more about at the next meet-up. North Ayrshire already has robust youth participation and New Scots are at the heart of that, so register now to be part of the movement!
Quote from: Councillor Chloé Robertson, Young People’s Champion
Register your interest now ahead of the next meet-up on Wednesday 21 May by emailing youthwork@north-ayrshire.gov.uk for more information.
Delivered by North Ayrshire Youth Services, part of the council’s Community Learning and Development team, the project is part of the North Ayrshire Youth Participation Strategy.
It supports the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, legally binding international legislation to protect the rights of all children and young people and provide them with learning opportunities in new and exciting settings.
