Work starts to repair Auchenharvie Leisure Centre roof

Initial preparations are now under way to bring Auchenharvie Leisure Centre swimming pool back into use.

Specialist contractors Walker Cladding arrived on site yesterday (Monday 4 August) to begin the process of repairing the roof of the facility.

The roof suffered extensive damage earlier this year when Storm Éowyn brought record-breaking winds and significant disruption across the UK.

Since then, Council officers, along with colleagues at KA Leisure, have worked behind the scenes to draw up a plan of action to allow the repairs to take place.

Quote: “We’re delighted to confirm that the contractors have arrived on site today to begin setting up for what will be an extensive programme of works. Initially, passers-by will not see any work being carried out as the programme will see a massive scaffolding structure erected inside the pool’s hall, to allow the contractors access to safely work on the roof. This is expected to take a number of weeks and, once complete, work will be able to start in earnest on the removal and replacement of the damaged roof. While this work is carried out, I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding.”

This programme of repair works, including the subsequent internal reinstatement of the pool area, is expected to take a number of months and it is hoped that it will be completed towards the end of the year.
