Volunteers needed for next PB funding cycle

Shaping North Ayrshire poster recruiting community volunteers

With the next round of the council’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) funding on the horizon, the council’s Connected Communities team are seeking volunteers to help with the democratic process.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Islands shares: “Our Community Empowerment team are working hard behind the scenes to ready our localities for the opening of North Ayrshire’s next PB funding round. This year, a total of £204,159 will be available - with applications open from Monday 25 August - and for the first time, the overall sum also includes a Community Wealth Building element of £30,000.

“To ensure all eligible projects proceed to the public vote, we are enlisting a network of Community Reviewers – local people who volunteer their time between applications closing and voting opening to check over all the submitted bids.

“We are always on the look-out for new people to join in, bringing a fresh perspective to the process and online training will be provided to anyone who wants to sign up.”

Send an email to: participatorybudgeting@north-ayrshire.gov.uk to register your interest in becoming a Community Reviewer.

Over 190 community groups and projects were successful in the last round so the council is hopeful that even more community groups and initiatives will be at the ready to throw their hats in their ring for their share this year.

The funding this year will be part of three funding pots:

  • Locality PB: Health and Wellbeing, Building Community Spirit, Cost of Living, Green Projects
  • Youth PB: Green Projects, Health and Wellbeing, Young People’s Voice and Rights, Equality and Diversity and Cost of Living
  • Community Wealth Building Fund: Community Ownership, Enterprising Communities and Local Innovation

Quote: Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process that gives local people the power to decide how public sector money is spent. The Community Reviewer’s volunteering opportunity is open to local people and will be taking place throughout September and October 2025. It is a brilliant chance for anyone interested in local democracy to participate and give back to their community.
