Update on essential works on Arran’s Allt Mor Bridge

North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that surfacing works will take place on Allt Mor Bridge on Arran’s String Road next week.
A Council contractor is planning to carry out the works on Thursday, 4 June and Friday, 5 June as part of vital, ongoing repairs to the bridge.
A two-day closure is necessary to allow the contractor to carry out the preparatory work and surfacing on the B880 at Allt Mor safely.
The road will be closed for part of the day only, between 9.30am and 3.30pm on both days.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Decisions on road closures are not taken lightly, and we are cognisant of competing demands such as residents’ day-to-day activities and the needs of visitors.
“We recognise how disruptive road closures can be, particularly for island communities and local businesses that rely on tourism.
“However, the repairs – which were more extensive than originally anticipated - are vital for public safety and for future-proofing the bridge.
“We have liaised with schools and transport partners to allow alternative commuting arrangements to be made.
“By scheduling the works outwith holiday periods and restricting the daily hours of full road closure, we hope to mitigate potential disruption for business and other services.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this temporary closure on 4 June and 5 June may cause and appreciate the ongoing patience and understanding of the Arran community.”
Anyone who lives or works on Arran, or who is planning to visit the island, is asked to bear the closures in mind.
