Trading Standards team seizes “toxic” toys
North Ayrshire Council’s Trading Standards team has removed approximately £3,500 worth of potentially dangerous toys from sale.
The goods, recently taken from several stores across North Ayrshire, posed a danger to children as they may be toxic.
The illicit and counterfeit items seized include Squishy Fidget Foams, Squishy Buns, Sonny Angel dolls, and KPop Demon Hunters figures, just to name a few.

As well as potential toxicity risks, these toys have not been tested against UK safety standards, so it is unknown whether the materials they are made from are safe.
The packaging of many of these toys also have no UK manufacturer/importer addresses, which is a legal requirement, nor to they have the legally required CE or UKCA mark – which is the European and UK conformity marking indicating that items meet all relevant safety requirements.
Some of the items also smelled very strongly of solvent.
Councillor Hill added: “Anyone buying toys for children should look out for signs that they may be counterfeit, including the price being too low, poor printing on packaging, or the missing CE/UKCA mark, along with any other out of the ordinary features, such as unusual or strong smells.”
Other recent toy seizures by the Trading Standards team have included hundreds of fake Labubu dolls, which became a must-have for children following the popularity of Pop Mart’s The Monsters series.
