Toilets in place as Sea Monster Park nears opening

new toilets and shot of Sea Monster Park

THE exciting new playpark in Irvine’s Harbourside will open later this summer as work on the development nears completion.

On Tuesday (13 July) new modular toilets were put in place at the ‘Sea Monster Park’ as the finishing touches continue to be put in place.

The innovative facility has been engineered and manufactured using modern construction techniques, designed to complement the coastal setting. The tbuilding features a distinctive beach hut-inspired appearance with coloured cladding, a multi-pitched roof design, and porthole-style windows within the access doors to maximise natural light.

The toilets also incorporate modern touchless technology and contactless charging and access systems, providing a high-quality, user-friendly facility for visitors while reducing maintenance requirements and supporting efficient operation.

The playpark has been developed as ‘Fair for All’ inclusion playground, designed to provide accessible and engaging play opportunities for all children, and is expected to open in August.

The play park includes safety surfacing throughout and is themed around local folklore and coastal heritage through four concept zones:

A War Waged in Sea and on Land featuring the landmark Sea Monster Play Area.

Seven Whales, A Cirein Croin's Feed forming the Mini Play Area.

Better Sma Fish Than Nane providing dynamic and active play opportunities.

Sensory and Quiet Spaces, creating inclusive areas for reflection and quieter play experiences.

The Sea Monster Park is part of the Great Harbour plans for Irvine’s Harbourside area. The £14 million Ayrshire Growth Deal investment in the area is being supported with £9 million from the Scottish Government.

The ‘Great Harbour’ is a key component of the £251m Ayrshire Growth Deal and one of the most ambitious and transformational regeneration tourism proposals for the region.

The wider Coastal Hub development will also include:

• Picnic area

• Sports facilities as the Pump track and skate park, seeking to work with local groups and community.

• Pilot House Plaza

• Asphalt footways with coloured flexible surfacing

• Street furniture and seating throughout the site

Quote: “It’s great that the finishing touches are being put in place - it’s an exciting development for the area which we are sure will be hugely popular with young people and their families.”
