Tenants move into new council homes in Garnock Valley

The final tenants have moved into North Ayrshire’s newest council homes.
A total of 14 new homes have been created across four sites at Laburnum Avenue, Beith, and Newhouse Drive, Kilbirnie.
And the feedback from the new residents has been overwhelmingly positive.
Local ward members took the opportunity to visit the homes and see how the development has helped transform lives for the tenants.
Garnock Valley councillors Anthea Dickson, Donald L. Reid and Margaret Johnson met new tenant Jimmy Ferguson and his dog, Luca.
He moved into one of the amenity bungalows in Newhouse Drive and is delighted with his new home.
Previously, the homes in Kilbirnie and at Laburnum Avenue, Beith, were the location of flatted blocks which were demolished after being identified for improvement as part of North Ayrshire Council’s Estate Based Regeneration Programme.
The two developments – supported by £1m Scottish Government Grant - saw seven modern, energy efficient new homes built in each location, providing a mix of two-bedroom amenity bungalows and two-bedroom general needs homes.
In support of the Council’s sustainability ambitions, all of the homes have heating and hot water supplied by air source heat pumps, supported by solar PV panels, triple glazing and enhanced building fabric. Each home with a dedicated driveway also has an electric vehicle charging point.
The new homes form yet another important part of North Ayrshire Council’s ambitious house-building programme which aims to deliver more than 1,600 brand new, energy-efficient homes in every part of North Ayrshire.
The Council is already more than halfway towards achieving that target with many more houses either under construction or at the planning stage.
Work is well under way at the site of the former Garnock Academy creating a further 50 new homes within the Garnock Valley.
