Seabed investigation works to get under way
Essential ground investigation works are set to begin at Millport Pier as part of a key step towards step ashore marine facilities development plans for Cumbrae, being delivered under funding from the Ayrshire Growth Deal.
The investigative works are scheduled to get under way on Monday, 26 October, with a specialised survey of the seabed adjacent to the pier.
This survey - which is expected to take around three days - will help inform the engineering design of proposed local marine improvements, which would include new pontoons, piles, a quay extension, dredging, and a revetment area.
During the survey, a 100-metre towing exclusion zone will operate behind the vessel, and mariners are kindly requested to pass with caution. A formal Notice to Mariners has been published.
Subject to the survey results, borehole drilling and sedimentation sampling is expected to follow towards the end of the year.
At this stage, a fenced-off construction compound and welfare units will be established on the pier, requiring its temporary closure. Unauthorised vehicle parking will also be restricted.
Quote: We appreciate these types of marine works can be inconvenient, and we will do everything we can to reduce the impacts on local people, businesses, and visitors while we carry out these vital assessments for the future of the pier.

The investigation works will be subject to weather and marine conditions.
