Talented school pupils from Arran have been involved in creating a video soundtrack that helps promote the island.

Young musicians from Isle of Arran Music School’s pipe band – based in Arran High School - feature in the recording, which promotes ferry travel and tourism.

Music for the four-minute-long clip was composed by the Music School’s Pipe Major Scott Figgins and also features six-piece folk-fusion band Eriska, which Scott plays pipes and whistles in.

Andrew Dickie, Faculty Head of Music at Arran High School, said: “We are incredibly proud of the video, which showcases both the talent of our students and the creative spirit of the island.

“Scott has composed a beautiful, uplifting piece of music and our students thoroughly enjoyed working on such a special recording project, which paints a beautiful picture of the island. It has been a fantastic experience for them.

“This has truly been a positive and forward-looking initiative.”

Isle of Arran Music School is a charity that aims to advance the musical education of all young people living on the island.

The video features pupils – who had never been in a recording studio before - drumming and playing the pipes as well as scenic footage of Arran. The idea to create the music was sparked by the students’ interest in the ferry, which in turn inspired Scott to write the piece.

New CalMac ferry the Glen Sannox completed its first sailings with passengers between Troon and Brodick last week (Monday 13 January) following a test run the previous day.

Duncan Mackison, CEO of CalMac, said: “This is a truly unique way to welcome MV Glen Sannox onto the Arran service.

“It is a lovely piece of music, which these highly talented pupils have played so beautifully. These young musicians have managed to convey the warm welcome that the vessel has received by our customers.”
