Review of Community Council Scheme of Establishment

People with an interest in seeing their community prosper are being invited to have their say.
North Ayrshire Council is carrying out a review of the current Community Council Scheme of Establishment.
Community Councils are voluntary organisations set up by statute by the Local Authority to act on behalf of their areas. They are involved in a range of activities which promote and protect the well-being and identity of their communities; and help bring local people together to make things happen. They advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of local communities.
All local authorities must provide a Scheme for Community Councils, which outlines their governance arrangements, which also includes details of the Community Council areas. North Ayrshire currently has provision for 17 Community Councils.
To remain current and reflect good practice, it is important that the scheme is reviewed and there is a statutory requirement to consult with affected stakeholders as part of the review.
We want to hear your views and any suggestions on how we can improve the North Ayrshire Council Community Council Scheme.
Any person or organisation wishing to make written representations or comments on the current scheme, along with suggestions for amendments, may do so no later than 12 noon on Monday 4 August 2025 either by email to elections@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or in writing to the Election Office, Cunninghame House, Irvine, KA12 8EE.
