Playpark to close temporarily to address subsidence

a playpark with various of pieces of equipment, surrounded by a fence

Parents are advised that the Golffields playpark in Irvine will close temporarily after the discovery of subsidence in a small section of the facility.

As a short-term measure, the equipment will be removed from the park and the area fenced off.

This will allow ground survey works to be undertaken with a view to finding a solution to the issue.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy at North Ayrshire Council, said: “While only a small section of the park has been affected by what appears to be subsidence, we cannot take any risks with our young people’s safety, so the decision has been taken to temporarily close the park while we investigate the issue.

“It is our intention to reinstate the play facility when we are certain there is no risk to visitors.

“In the meantime, I would like to thank residents for their patience while we look to resolve the issue.”
