Participatory budgeting results are in

Blue sky with confetti streamers and Shaping North Ayrshire logo

North Ayrshire Council would like to share its thanks to residents across our six localities who recently voted in our latest Participatory Budgeting round.

Since the deadline on Friday 15 November, the Connected Communities team has worked tirelessly to verify and count the votes.

The team are now delighted to now announce that 190 community groups and projects have been successful in receiving their share of £171,377 funding.

Over 300 nominations were received over the past few months with 246 projects going through to the public vote. Of these, the 190 successfully funded projects covered two funding cycles:

  • locality PB: Health and Wellbeing, Building Community Spirit, Cost of Living, Green Projects
  • youth PB: Youth Voice and Rights, Health and Wellbeing, Cost of Living, Green Projects

Voting was predominately completed online, with pupils across North Ayrshire schools voting in school using their Young Scot Card or special logins for younger pupils. Paper votes were also submitted by the public via libraries.

The successful community projects and groups from Arran, Garnock Valley, Irvine, Kilwinning, North Coast and Cumbraes and the Three Towns have since been informed of the good news.

To view all of the successful projects and learn how the funding will benefit the groups, visit the Shaping North Ayrshire website.

Quote: Participatory budgeting is citizen participation at its grassroots. It is one of the key ways that the Council is enabling local people to make decisions on how we can address inequalities. It is based on an ethos of ‘it’s your money, you decide.

Quote from: Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands said: “Our residents know better than anyone else which projects are going to be the most beneficial to them in their local communities, so it was only fair that we gave communities a direct say on how money the PB funds would be best spent.

“Opening to the public vote ensured that everyone had the power to weigh up their options and decide upon what was going to make the most impact locally for their area.

“You voted and we listened, now the successfully funded groups can move forward in their own aspirations and look with positively towards 2025.

“Stay tuned for news features in the coming months as projects get underway. Congratulations to the recipients and thank you to everyone involved.”

With an aim to help community projects and organisations to make a positive difference in their communities, NAC’s Participatory Budgeting process has proven hugely successful since first being rolled out in 2016.

£30k of the overall PB budget has come from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and shared across North Ayrshire. Find out more projects that have been successful in previous funding cycles.
