Ordinary Election for Arran Community Council

Nominations are being sought for Arran Community Council.
Candidates for this voluntary position must be aged over 16 and live within the boundary of Arran Community Council. The term of office is four years and current members of the community council are eligible to stand for election.
Nomination papers can be obtained by emailing the Election Team at elections@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or by telephoning 01294 324729. The team can also provide information and advice about community councils membership generally for anyone living outwith the Arran area.
Completed nomination papers must contain the name and address of the person nominated and the names and addresses of two proposers, each of whom should be a local government elector for the area. Each nomination paper must be signed by the person nominated and the two proposers.
The deadline for nominations is 12noon on Monday, 17 November, 2025.
In the event that the number of nominations received meets the minimum requirement – six – and does not exceed the maximum membership allowed – 12 – all nominees will be appointed to the community council.
The maximum extended villages membership for Arran is:
| Extended Village | Number to be Elected |
|---|---|
| Brodick | 2 |
| Corrie (including Sannox) | 1 |
| Kilmory (including Kildonan) | 1 |
| Lamlash | 2 |
| Lochranza | 1 |
| Pirnmill | 1 |
| Shiskine (inc.Blackwaterfoot) | 2 |
| Whiting Bay | 2 |
Should the number of nominations received exceed the number of places available in each extended village, a ballot will be held on week commencing Monday, 24 November, 2025, at an Elections meeting within that village.
Locations and dates for contested Elections will be confirmed after the close of nominations, with all local electors aged 16 and over in attendance eligible to cast a vote. Further details are available on the Council website.
The role of a community council is important as it co-ordinates and expresses the views of its community to public authorities. Community councils also form part of the Locality Partnerships of North Ayrshire. These agree the priorities for each locality and try to ensure that everyone, public agencies and community work in a co-ordinated way to address priorities
