North Ayrshire Council retains Gold Accreditation

Three people holding a certificate

North Ayrshire Council has successfully attained its third successive Gold in Scrutiny Approved Accreditation.

The Council’s Housing Service was first awarded gold accreditation in 2016, which recognises outstanding customer participation, tenant empowerment, and service scrutiny.

The Housing Service successfully retained its gold standard in 2021 and has now been recognised for its continued high performance by achieving the award for a third time.

Developed in partnership between TIS Scotland and Scotland’s Housing Network, the Accreditation framework recognises housing organisations that demonstrate excellence in tenant scrutiny.

It also provides assurance that tenant participation is at the heart of North Ayrshire Council’s engagement strategy.

Quote: Achieving our third successive Gold Accreditation is a significant milestone for our Housing Services team. It reflects the strength of our commitment to meaningful tenant participation, ensuring that tenants have a genuine voice in shaping services and influencing decisions. This recognition provides independent assurance that our approach is not only effective but continues to evolve, supporting better outcomes for our communities.”

The robust framework recognises a level of tenant, resident, and community engagement, participation, and influence by a bronze, silver, or gold standard.

The framework required the Council to submit a robust evidenced-based self-assessment document. Thereafter, TIS Scotland independently facilitated focus groups with staff and separately with tenant representatives to review and assess the self-assessment.

An independent panel of assessors reviewed the data and formed a final audit report. The panel were unanimous in their decision to award Gold, and in their report praised the Council’s commitment to encourage tenants to influence policy and decision making and have a meaningful role in scrutinising and shaping housing services.

Pedro Cameron, Tenant Participation and Engagement Manager at TIS Scotland, said. “We are delighted to once again present North Ayrshire Council with the Gold Award as part of our Scrutiny Approved Accreditation. TIS, SHN and our independent panel were all extremely impressed by the breadth of tenant participation opportunities across the region, alongside a clear and ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.”
