Nominations sought for West Kilbride Community Council

Nominations are being sought for West Kilbride Community Council. This is an opportunity to be directly involved with local democracy in your community.
Candidates for these voluntary positions must be aged over 16 years and live within the boundary of West Kilbride Community Council. Current members of the community council – as well as potential new members - are eligible to stand for election.
Community Councillors are elected for four years and during this term you could make decisions that will benefit residents of West Kilbride. Please note that community councillors serve in a voluntary capacity.
Nomination papers can be obtained by emailing the Election Team at elections@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or by calling 01294 324729. The team can also provide information and advice about community councils membership generally for anyone living outwith the West Kilbride area.
Completed nomination papers must contain the name and address of the person nominated and the names and addresses of two proposers, each of whom should be registered to vote in elections. Each nomination paper must be signed by the person nominated and the two proposers. The Election Team are available to offer support if needed.
The deadline for nominations is 12 noon on Monday 2 February 2026.
An election meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Monday 9 February 2026 at West Kilbride Community Centre.
In the event that the number of nominations received meets the minimum needed (four) and does not exceed the maximum membership allowed (seven), all nominees will be appointed to the community council and become Community Councillors.
Should the number of nominations received exceed the places available, a ballot will be held at an election meeting. All those in attendance at the meeting, eligible to vote in elections and who are aged 16, will be able to cast a vote. Locations and dates for an election meeting if needed will be confirmed after the close of nominations.
The role of a community council is important as it co-ordinates and expresses the views of its community to public authorities. Community councils also form part of the Locality Partnerships of North Ayrshire. These agree the priorities for each locality and help ensure that everyone including public agencies and the community work in a co-ordinated way to address priorities.
