Millport bench memorials go on display

Plaques erected in memory of loved ones have gone back on public display on Millport.
As part of the Millport Flood Protection Scheme works, benches along the shore were removed as the new flood defences contained built-in seating.
Many of these benches carried small plaques remembering family and friends.
Rather than losing the plaques completely, these were removed for safekeeping while the works were carried out but they have now gone back on display in Millport to ensure the treasured messages continue to have a presence on the seafront.
Quote: We know how much these plaques mean to families, so we were keen to ensure they were not lost in the changes along the Millport shorefront. We contacted dozens of families beforehand to make them aware of our plans to keep the plaques safe until we could put them back on public display. I’m delighted to see that the plaques have now been erected on the seafront, ensuring the treasured memorials will be preserved for years to come.”
