Do you want to speak truth to power? Would you love to meet young people like you in your community and tackle issues affecting your peers? Have you been looking for a chance to shape plans and policies for other young people?

If you are aged between 12-25 you can do all of the above in our new North Ayrshire Equalities Youth Forum.

If you are interested in community empowerment and promoting equalities and inclusion, this is a chance to make your voice heard and influence the council’s decision-making process for young people across our six localities. Young people living, working or studying in North Ayrshire have the chance to get involved.

The Equalities Youth Forum will be used to shape projects and policies for care experienced young people, LGBT Youth, New Scots, young people with additional support needs and young carers. All you need to do is email: youthwork@north-ayrshire.gov.uk to register your interest.

Quote: We are proud to work in a North Ayrshire that champions the rights of all young people, regardless of their background or protected characteristics. Our Community Learning and Development team continue to be passionate about providing safe and supportive spaces where young people can continue to embrace their uniqueness and have the freedom to express themselves without judgement.

Meeting fortnightly at Cranberry Moss Community Centre (6.30pm-8pm), the North Ayrshire Equalities Youth Forum will offer a safe and inclusive space for youth participation and getting involved in local projects and initiatives.

It will build on existing work by other youth groups including The Umbrella Group and Garnock Valley Youth Forum, Irvine Legacy Hub, North Coast Youth Forum, ASN youth provision, Care Experienced Champions Board and the newly established New Scots Youth Forum.

North Ayrshire Councillor Chloé Robertson, Young People’s Champion said: “We are calling on young people who want to advocate for others and champion equalities to get involved now! North Ayrshire already has robust youth participation, and our new Equalities Forum will be at the heart of just that, so register now to be part of the movement! Let’s work together to create a North Ayrshire that all young people are proud to live in.”

Young people and their parents and carers are invited to upcoming event.

Register your interest now ahead of the upcoming Youth Equalities Forum Meet and Greet Event on Saturday 21 June from midday until 3pm. Email: youthwork@north-ayrshire.gov.uk

Taking place at Cranberry Moss, Kilwinning, this will be a chance to find out more and join our dedicated youth workers and Locality teams responsible for providing equalities opportunities for young people.

Young people attending the Meet and Greet event and future sessions will help shape the group to work on projects and prioritise what is most important to them. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
