Further investment in play parks
More than £350,000 is being invested in two North Ayrshire Council play parks to help ensure children have fun, safe places to enjoy the outdoors.
Over a five-year period, from 2021 to 2026, a total of £1.39million Scottish Government funding will be invested in inland play facilities across North Ayrshire.
This funding has been supported by an additional £500,000 of Council investment in play facilities at coastal locations.
Work is currently ongoing to revamp the seaside facility at Mackerston in Largs, where a £315,000 investment will see 95 per cent of the equipment being replaced.
At West Bay in Millport, Cumbrae, £152,000 is being spent to create a brand-new play park.
The Council’s Neighbourhood Services’ Streetscene team is coordinating the work at both locations, and the play parks will be closed for approximately three weeks from 1 September, reopening around 21 September.
Wellbeing is one of North Ayrshire Council’s strategic priorities, and the work being carried out to improve play facilities demonstrates how children are being encouraged to make the most of outdoor play, games and spending time with friends and family.
