Employability Week helps people make positive changes

Hundreds of people have taken a step towards finding new training and work opportunities, thanks to North Ayrshire Council’s Employability Week.
Now in its third year, the special week offered residents of different ages the chance to find out more about life-changing work and training opportunities.
It featured a series of community events to help showcase services that are available through the Council and various partners, with information about job vacancies, new careers, training and volunteering made available.
Irvine’s Volunteer Rooms hosted two popular public events - a Jobs Fair that attracted almost 150 visitors and a Council Modern Apprentice recruitment information event that saw around 70 people coming through the doors.
The week’s activities are coordinated by the Council’s Employability Service, Working North Ayrshire, and also included the official launch of the Equal Specialist Employability Support (SES) official garden opening at Lochshore Park in Kilbirnie, which attracted more than 100 visitors.
Around 20 people attended a Personal Recruitment Incentive (PRI) celebration event at the CEIS Ayrshire base in Bank Street, Irvine. The PRI initiative sees local businesses getting grants to offer job opportunities to young people.
Quote: I would like to congratulate the Working North Ayrshire team and Council partners for arranging another successful Employability Week. Activities throughout the week are a great way to helping people access a broad range of opportunities that are available to them – right here on their doorstep in North Ayrshire. Sometimes in life, it can be difficult to figure out what your next step should be – whether this is in the workplace or through training, volunteering or study – and where to turn for proper expert guidance. I would encourage anyone who is in this position to get in touch with our Employability team to see how they can help.

Provost Anthea Dickson cut the ribbon at the launch of the Equal SES garden, where she met members of the Employability team, trainees and volunteers.
Provost Dickson said: “We were lucky to have a gloriously sunny day for the official opening, and I was delighted to be there to see all of the hard work and thought that has gone into creating this garden space.
“I was very impressed with the methods that Equal Specialist Employment Services use that focus on individuals’ strengths and interests, and then connects these with employers’ requirements.
“I wish the team all the best for the future and look forward to returning at some point in the future to – literally – see the fruits of their labour!”
