Drop-in events to showcase Arran marine plans

North Ayrshire Council is inviting local residents, businesses and visitors to attend drop-in events to view proposals for new step ashore marine infrastructure on the Isle of Arran.

The proposals form part of the £9.5 million Ayrshire Growth Deal Marine Tourism Programme – a decade-long investment designed to strengthen the marine tourism economy across Ayrshire.

Proposals for Arran include the development of pontoons at Brodick and Lamlash. It is hoped these facilities will improve access for visiting boats, support local businesses and help attract more visitors to the island.

Two drop-in sessions will be held in March to present early design concepts and invite feedback before the proposals are submitted to the Scottish Government for the next stage of development.

Both sessions will be held from 10am and 7pm:

  • Wednesday 11 March – COAST Community Hub, Lamlash, 10am–7pm
  • Friday 13 March – Ormidale Sports Pavilion, Brodick, 10am–7pm

Quote: Arran’s coastline is one of its greatest strengths, and these proposals aim to make the island even more accessible for visitors arriving by sea. By investing in high quality marine infrastructure, we can support local businesses, increase access to the island and help create new opportunities for the future. We’re keen to hear from the local community and encourage as many people as possible to come along to the drop-in sessions and share their views.”

The Ayrshire Growth Deal (AGD) Marine Tourism Programme is a 10-year Scottish Government-funded regeneration initiative designed to grow the marine tourism economy in North Ayrshire.

The programme will deliver new step-ashore marine infrastructure on the Islands of Arran and Cumbrae to attract more visitors and increase boat visits to the islands.

Step ashore facilities enable boats to land and berth safely enabling passengers to embark and disembark directly onto land by foot. Step-ashore facilities typically include floating pontoons secured by moorings, anchors, or steel piles, connected to the shore by a linkspan bridge, ramp, or steps. This ensures dry-foot access in varying tidal conditions.
