North Council has welcomed the news of over £20 million of UK Government funding as part of plans to improve communities across the country.

The Pride in Place programme will see up to £280 million shared among 12 Scottish local authorities, including up to £20 million for North Ayrshire Council, to target areas which can benefit most from funding for a wide range of regeneration projects.

Councillor Marie Burns, Leader of North Ayrshire Council, says the local authority is ‘looking forward to building on the positive work with communities to date’ as they work in partnership to assess how best to utilise the funding which will be spent across the region over a ten-year period.

The Council will also receive £1.5m over two years under the Pride in Place Impact Fund, starting this financial year.

The Pride in Place programme targets areas which can benefit most from funding for a wide range of regeneration projects. Across Scotland, fourteen of the most-in-need communities will benefit. Potential priorities for the fund include revitalising high streets and town centres, preserving local heritage, providing housing, creating jobs, boosting productivity and skills, improving health and well-being, creating new transport links, providing education and opportunity and improving safety and security.

The Pride in Place Impact Fund will see eight Scottish local authorities share £12 million (£1.5 million for North Ayrshire Council) to fund the types of changes people have said they want to see. These could include new green spaces, play areas and town centre revitalisation to sports and leisure facilities and the improvement and ownership of key community assets.

Quote: We welcome this additional funding boost for North Ayrshire. We will work closely with our communities, businesses and organisations, taking a Community Wealth Building approach to identify how we can utilise these additional resources to enhance our local areas, meet local communities' priorities and make the places we live and work as attractive as possible.

Quote from: Councillor Marie Burns, Leader of North Ayrshire Council

“Whether it is improving our high streets and town centres, preserving local heritage, providing housing, working with our businesses to create jobs, boosting productivity and skills, improving health and well-being, creating new transport links or providing education and opportunity, we will endeavour to maximise the potential of this and wider investment to deliver for our communities.

“North Ayrshire has a great track record of working in partnership with communities and organisations to identify and deliver on local priorities. We look forward to building on the significant work to date, so we can deliver significant change that will benefit residents, businesses, visitors and the whole area.”
