Community Council nominations open

Community councils in the Garnock Valley are recruiting new members and the deadline is fast approaching.
Kilbirnie and Glengarnock Community Council - serving between the town of Kilbirnie and the village of Glengarnock, and Beith and District Community Council - representing Beith and the boundary villages of Gateside and Barrmill - are due to hold their Ordinary Elections in accordance with the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils.
The community councils are seeking new members as well as current members to support their continued operation and representation of their local areas. If you want to get involved and become a candidate, you can nominate yourself between now and the deadline of 12 noon on Friday 7 November 2025.
The most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland, community councils bridge the gap between local authorities and communities. Their main purpose is to be representative of their local community, gather community opinion, and share the views of the community with key decision-makers.
They help to make public bodies, such as North Ayrshire Council, aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent. Many are also involved in local fundraising, organising community events and engaging with local people.
Quote: Community councils represent democracy at its grassroots. They are involved at the heart of Locality Partnerships to ensure that the priorities and work of community planning partners, community councils and the community are right for their local area and everyone is working to achieve the same ambitions. So, if you want to be part of the action, why not nominate yourself and make a real difference in your area?
