Boost for ‘Growers’ as group secure NAVT funding

Exterior shot of new hub being developed

A local horticultural group are celebrating after receiving a substantial financial boost that will help ‘grow’ their organisation.

The Three Towns Growers will receive just under £25,000 over two years from North Ayrshire Ventures Trust (NAVT) to help them establish their Hub.

The money - £12,420 each year – will help them install and purchase Heat Recovery Ventilation Unit (MVHR), Air Conditioning Heat Pump (ASHP) and Solar (Photovoltaics) to help develop the The Hub, which is currently under construction at the community allotment at Elm Park, Ardrossan.

Buying this equipment, will bring the Hub up to the standard required for opening, allowing it to develop as community asset with the unique aspect of community involvement and education around food growing/provision at a local level. The Hub will be a place for people to meet, take part in social and educational activities and provide cost effective lets for community groups and projects.

As well playing a part in the relief of poverty for residents by providing education/workshops along with resources for residents/tenants to grow their own food, it will increase volunteering opportunities for local people. The Hub will also have a café.

Quote: We are delighted to be supporting Three Towns Growers and we are all really excited to see the Hub being developed and then being opened. It will be a fantastic local facility and will be a huge asset on many different levels to people of all ages. We look forward to seeing how the Hub develops over the coming months.”

Gordon Cowan from the Three Towns Growers said, “We are delighted to be awarded the funding and would like to thank the NAVT board for supporting us.

“The funding will be instrumental in helping us develop our Hub, which we are sure will be a massive asset for the members and, of course, the wider community. We really appreciate the support and look forward to moving forward with our plans.”
