Apply now! Exciting arts residency on Arran

North Ayrshire Council has received funding from Creative Scotland to provide an exciting placed-based arts residency opportunity on the Isle of Arran.
With accommodation being provided at Drumadoon Estate, the Clyde Bioregion Residency Programme, is being delivered by and supported by a freelance co-ordinator, working closely with a collective of artists, creative practitioners, landowners and gallerists who are being supported by North Ayrshire Council, Creative Scotland and Archaeology Scotland.
As part of the programme running this summer and into 2026, the Drumadoon Estate will be providing a fully mobile converted 1956 Bedford Vintage truck as off-grid accommodation.
The vehicle, which can be moved, means artists will be able to embed their practice in the environment and communities whilst being resident at Drumadoon, situated on the southwestern coast of the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde. The participatory aspect is important to the project and its fund.
While being totally self-contained the opportunities to explore the coastline, archaeology, geology and history of the island is endless and on point.
From visual and literary to performing arts, in partnership with Creative Scotland, the council’s Arts and Culture team, is inviting arts and creative practitioners from North Ayrshire to submit proposals from across all disciplines.
Applications should be submitted directly to the Island Arts co-ordinator: Eòghann MacColl at: naplacepartnership@north-ayrshire.gov.uk before the deadline of Thursday 19 June 2025.
Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Islands shares: “This is a fantastic opportunity funded by Creative Scotland to bring together the work of the North Ayrshire Place Partnership via the Clyde Bioregion Residency Programme.
Quote: Applying will give successful candidates a unique chance to explore the places, stories and bioregional context of the Isle of Arran and the project is one of two residencies with an Isle of Cumbrae opportunity on the horizon too – details still to be announced. So, if you would like to develop new creative practices and be inspired by the biodiversity, cultural traditions and rich heritage and history of the Isle of Arran, don’t delay, register today for your chance to make your mark in this one-of-a-kind creative programme.”

With Archaeology Scotland providing support throughout, the theme of archaeology is at the heart of the Bioregion programme as Arran is home to many significant archaeology sites.
The theme of environmental sustainability will also be key. It is hoped that by taking part, the successful creatives will have a chance to respond to place and environment, developing a deeper understanding of the island’s ecology.
There is also a strong emphasis in the design brief on participation and collaboration with communities, namely the creation of spaces to connect communities.
Finally, there is also an intention of the Clyde Bioregion Residency Programme to offer a shadow residency opportunity for a young island creative from one of the island’s schools or youth groups. This element will be supported by the dedicated Arts Coordinator.
