Residents can pay their respects on Remembrance Sunday

Posted on 6 Nov 2023

North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson has called on people in Irvine and surrounding areas to pay their respects to the fallen on Remembrance Sunday.

The aim of the day, held on the second Sunday in November, is for people to stand together and remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have lost their lives in various wars.

Tributes will be paid in our communities to those in the Armed Forces and crowds of people are expected to turn out at services across North Ayrshire.

Provost Dickson will pay her respects in Irvine.

She said: “These services are usually well attended and offer people in our towns and villages an opportunity to stand together and recognise sacrifices that have been made – and are still being made - by those men and women in our Armed Forces.”

Details of this year’s Remembrance Sunday proceedings in Irvine on Sunday, November 12, are:

  • 10.40am - parade assembles in High Street
  • 10.50am - parade departs for War Memorial
  • 11am to11.20am - service and wreath laying ceremony at War Memorial and
  • 11.30am to 12.30pm - Remembrance Service in Irvine Old Parish Church. All are welcome.
