The upgraded sheltered housing accommodation has officially been re-opened at Barnett Court in Saltcoats.

The sheltered housing complex, in the heart of the town, has been completely transformed for its residents.

Provost Anthea Dickson celebrated the official opening of the new-look homes which have undergone a £3m modernisation.

The transformation saw a complete external and internal overhaul of 23 properties, delivered by contractor James Frew Ltd.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy at North Ayrshire Council, said: “We are continually investing in our housing stock, providing our tenants with sustainable and affordable homes.

“The fantastic refurbishment of Barnett Court is just the latest success story in our wider £40m programme to upgrade eleven sheltered housing complexes across North Ayrshire.

“I’m delighted to see the work being completed which benefits both the residents and the wider regeneration of the area.

“The homes were designed with the needs of our older residents in mind, taking into account simple measures such as kitchen finishes, flooring and fittings which contrast to improve visibility utilising dementia-friendly design principles.

“I would like to say thank you to all the tenants for their support and patience during the works.”

The modernisation works were delivered by James Frew Limited on behalf of the Council, with all 23 properties benefitting from upgraded central heating, an extended kitchen layout, installation of a wet floor shower room, and a new sprinkler system as well as new doors, windows and solar PV panels.

In addition, the communal areas have also been upgraded with a new visiting services room and a new scooter store.
