Candidates confirmed for Kilwinning By-Election

The candidates have been confirmed for the Kilwinning By-Election, to be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

A North Ayrshire Council seat has become vacant following the recent passing of Councillor John Glover.

Following the deadline on Friday, April 5, to submit nominations, the candidates have now been confirmed. They are:

  • Ian Gibson - Scottish Family Party - Putting Families First
  • Sheila Gibson - Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Mary Hume - Scottish Labour Party
  • Ruby Kirkwood - Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Chris Lawler - Scottish Conservative and Unionist

Voting gets under way at 7am on Thursday, May 9, and polling places will remain open until 10pm.

The count, which is carried out electronically for local elections, will be held the following day, Friday, May 10.

Those wishing to find out more about registering to vote – including obtaining a postal vote – can do so by contacting the Electoral Registration Office.

Residents have until midnight on Monday, April 22, to register to vote in this By-Election. The deadline to apply to vote by proxy or for postal applications is 5pm on Tuesday, April 23.
