Library space charges

Charging structure at April 2025.

Charges are per hour based on category of use.

Free of charge category: 100% subsidy

Commercial ventures/profit activities. Restricted to the description below.

  • Community Learning and Development adult and youth programmed learning, includes Duke of Edinburgh (free when building already in use or keyholding)
  • Community Council meetings (restricted to 15 per annum)
  • Registrar ceremonies (Kilbirnie Library)
  • pupil support

Category two: £24.85

Commercial ventures/profit activities.

  • commercial traders
  • car boot sale, tabletop sale, commercial ticketed music and drama performances

Category three: £8.10

Adult voluntary groups, sports groups, Community Festivals and events and Charitable fundraising activities (unlicensed). Agency, Government and North Ayrshire Council services.

  • North Ayrshire Council departments
  • religious/spiritual groups
  • social enterprises (non- commercial business)
  • adult leisure activities, meetings, community development meetings, training and presentations
  • non-licensed community festivals and events
  • North Ayrshire Leisure (NAL), NHS, Police,
  • Housing Association, Government Agencies, Job Centre Plus
  • Councillor surgeries, MP’s/Trade Unions, for example: GMB, Unison, Unite

Category four: £3.60

Early Years groups, Youth Groups and Uniformed Organisations. (Membership restricted to under 18). Bookings catering for a person(s) with a disability, Senior Citizens and organisations who exist only for a charitable cause.

  • health support groups/sensory impairment
  • non-profit alcohol and drug support groups
  • youth uniformed organisations such as Boys Brigade, Guides and Cadets
  • youth voluntary such as dance classes, karate and martial arts not for self-gain
  • mother and toddlers and other community childcare
  • Constituted child/youth activities Youth Theatre/Arts
  • Opportunities in Retirement (OIR), non-profit weight management, food poverty groups
  • elderly forums
  • Red Cross/Marie Curie Cancer Care and any others of this nature
  • association/social enterprise
