Following on from the discovery of trace asbestos and hydrocarbons within the deep excavations, safe systems of work have been developed to deal with these contaminants in accordance with the agreed remediation strategy and good industry practice. Over the coming weeks, you may notice some staff working on site will be wearing appropriate Person Protective Equipment (PPE), including masks and overalls; this is a precaution required only for those in close proximity to the affected areas. Reassurance air tests continue to be undertaken on a regular basis and are showing that levels are staying within safe limits and government standards.

Programme update

Now that the safe systems of work have been developed and agreed, excavations will recommence on the deep drainage and swimming pool areas with effect from week commencing 27 October.

Progress in the period includes:

  • Full Site Accommodation establishment
  • site surveys and testing
  • continued drainage works
  • continued cutting of piles to platform height
  • commenced foundations and slab formation and gas barrier to teaching wing above 600mm capping layer

Works to be undertaken in the next four weeks include:

  • continuation of surveys
  • recommencement of deep excavations to drainage and pool
  • continuation of foundations and concrete slab preparations
  • potential commencement of steel frame erection (we are looking at undertaking as much off-site fabrications as possible)

We are hoping that the connection to the mains power will be in the next four to eight weeks, and allow us to remove the temporary generators.

Working within the community

We are continuing to work closely with the local community to offer diverse benefits as the project progresses. Some of our community impact initiatives to date include:

  • inspiring the future of the construction industry through meaningful replacements - the Morgan Sindall team were delighted to welcome Hannah for a week's work experience placement offering the opportunity to gain hands-on insight into various aspects of construction and project management. The placement included a site visit, learning how to measure from drawings and perform take-offs for quantities, and engaging in practical exercises such as calculating resource outputs for drainage and sequencing works to create a basic draining programme. The experience also covered measuring concrete floor slabs and developing a programme for these works. Specifically relating to the Ardrossan Community Campus project, Hannah participated in a session with our Digital Construction Manager to explore BIM and digital construction's role in the project's programme planning.
  • introducing Konur - Morgan Sindall are committed to nurturing and developing talent within the construction industry, ensuring that the next generation of professionals has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to our projects. As part of this commitment, we are delighted to have Konur as part of our Morgan Sindall project team, a graduate building services engineer, who is gaining valuable hands-on experience while playing an active role in the delivery of the Ardrossan Community Campus.

Concerns or complaints

We are continuing to minimise the disruption to residents/neighbours. We have been asked to provide clarification on the communication protocols for the project. For clarity, the reporting of new day to day issues about the Campus construction activities (for example, noise, dust, deliveries and so on) should be made to Victoria Proven on 07773 592674. If there are repeated enquiries about an issue to which she has already provided a response or there is an issue about a part of the wider Ardrossan Coastal Quarter site then these should be directed to ardrossancampusconsultation@north-ayrshire.gov.uk as this will be the most appropriate avenue to get to a resolution of the enquiry.

Security

The site is monitored via CCTV camera towers which activate whenever anyone breaches the site perimeter. This is a 24/7 service, and the site is also monitored via mobile patrols. If you see anything suspicious or have any security concerns, then please contact Victoria directly on 07773 592674.
