Programme update

Progress in the period includes:

  • site set up and enabling works
  • site surveys, including dilapidation surveys, and testing
  • installation of noise, vibration, and dust monitors at points on site closest to neighbouring properties
  • site security installation of heras fencing, gates, hoarding panels, and CCTV
  • preparation of piling platforms and piling commencement

Works to be undertaken in the next four weeks include:

  • continuation of site set up, including installation of remaining hoarding and installation of additional site welfare facilities, and surveys
  • continuation of piling. We are aware that this operation has been noisy, and we apologise for any disruption this has caused. We have now installed over half of the piles and these works are due for completion in early September. Whilst we aim to keep disruption to a minimum the piling work will create noise and possible vibration. We are really excited to be the first project in the UK to use a fully electric piling rig.
  • commence drainage installation
  • cutting down piles to platform height – this will be a noisy activity and will be undertaken on an intermittent basis over the next 3 to 4 months

Working within the community

We are continuing to work closely with the local community to offer various benefits as the project progresses. Some of our community impact initiatives to date include:

  • North Ayrshire Community Lunch – Morgan Sindall was delighted to be a sponsor of SCAPE Scotland’s Ayrshire Community lunch where locals from across the county – including North Ayrshire enjoyed a warm afternoon of food, fun, and connection. It was great to see such a successful turn out with almost 60 people there to enjoy the afternoon.
  • Ardrossan Community Campus achieves Morgan Sindall’s 10 Tonne Challenge – Morgan Sindall’s 10 Tonne Challenge encourages our project teams to explore ways to reduce the carbon footprint of projects by at least 10 tonnes to achieve the challenge. The Ardrossan Community Campus project team smashed the target, saving 1622 tonnes of CO2 by using recycled tubular steel from oil rigs to form steel piles. This equates to heating as many as 601 UK homes annually. Check out the report below!

What we did to achieve the Project Carbon Challenge:

  • used recycled tubular steel from oil rigs to form steel piles
  • eliminated the need for unnecessary virgin materials to be procured
  • enhanced design with circular economy at the forefront of our agenda

Project highlights:

  • 1622 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2) saved
  • supporting customers to decarbonise using CarboniCa
  • equivalent to 601 UK homes heated annually
