Dear Resident,

We wanted to share an update on the Ardrossan Campus project and let you know how work on site is progressing.

We know some people have been concerned, especially about the pace of work, and we hope this update helps explain where things stand.

Progress to date

Work on the new campus started in July 2025. Early excavation uncovered materials deep underground, including asbestos and hydrocarbons.

To keep everyone safe, the work was adjusted carefully. This meant:

  • Putting extra safety measures in place straight away
  • Bringing in specialist teams to deal with and remove the materials safely.
  • Slowing progress for a time while this essential work was carried out.

Independent experts reviewed the approach throughout and confirmed that everything was handled safely and to a very high standard.

Why this was not fully known before

The site is a former industrial, or brownfield, site, and conditions below ground do not always become fully clear until deeper excavation begins. Although detailed investigations were carried out beforehand, findings can still happen on complex sites like this.

Updated programme

Because this extra work was needed, the project timeline has changed:

  • Completion: May 2028
  • Opening: August 2028

Where things stand now

The good news is that the contamination has now been dealt with and the extra safety measures are no longer needed.

Construction has now reached the steel frame stage, which is an important milestone and a clear sign that work is moving ahead steadily again.

Supporting the community

We know delays and construction activity can be frustrating, and we want to reassure you that we understand those concerns.

We will keep sharing updates and continue doing all we can to reduce disruption where possible.

To help with that, we are:

  • Sharing regular updates through monthly newsletters and Stakeholder Reference Group meetings
  • Providing information online through the Ardrossan Coastal Quarter and Morgan Sindall webpages
  • Continuing to look for ways to reduce the impact of construction on the local area

Looking ahead

Despite these challenges, the Ardrossan Campus is still an important investment in the town’s future. When it is complete, it will provide:

  • A modern 2 to 18 community campus
  • New sports and leisure facilities, including a swimming and learner pool.
  • Enhanced opportunities for learning, health, and wellbeing

Positive regeneration of a long-standing derelict site

This is a long-term project, and we believe it will bring real and lasting benefits to Ardrossan and the wider community.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.
