By-election date confirmed for Kilwinning

The countdown to the Kilwinning By-Election is officially under way following the publication of the Notice of Election today (March 22).

Voters in the Kilwinning ward will go to the polls on Thursday, May 9, 2024, to elect a new local member following the recent passing of John Glover.

Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Friday, April 5, to submit their nomination papers. Please note that Council offices will be closed on Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, due to the Bank Holiday weekend.

Nomination packs can be downloaded from the Council’s website or obtained by contacting the Election Office.   Anyone wishing to collect a nomination pack from the office is requested to call in advance on (01294) 324729.

Voting will open for registered electors in the Kilwinning ward at 7am on Thursday, May 9, and polling places will remain open until 10pm.

The count, which is carried out electronically, will be held the following day, Friday, May 10.

Those wishing to find out more about registering to vote – including obtaining a postal vote – can do so by contacting the Electoral Registration Office.

Residents have until midnight on Monday, April 22, to check they are registered to vote in the By-Election. The deadline to apply to vote by proxy or for postal applications is 5pm on Tuesday, April 23.
