Ancient monuments and gardens

We protect ancient monuments because they are important artefacts of our heritage and may hold cultural value within a community.

Designed gardens and landscapes are important because;

  • of their unique artistic value
  • they contain rare or valuable plant collections
  • they are invaluable to wildlife.

Development near a scheduled ancient monument or designed landscape, may be subject to planning constraints and will be assessed for their impact on their surroundings.
