Waste services arrangements for the festive season 2021

Posted on 3 Dec 2021

North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that there will be no changes to bin collections on the mainland and Cumbrae this festive season.

That’s because both the Christmas and New Year public holidays fall over a weekend.

Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open as normal, with the exception of two brief closure periods on: Saturday 25 December to Tuesday 28 December 2021; and from Saturday 1 January to Tuesday 4 January 2022. The recycling centres will close at 3pm on Friday 24 December and Friday 31 December.

Special uplifts will stop on Friday 17 December 2021 and recommence on Monday 10 January 2022.

Despite there being no planned changes to household and commercial bin collection services on the mainland and Cumbrae, the Council is advising residents and businesses to have their bins out for collection by 7am on their collection day, as the timing of collections may vary particularly if adverse weather affects the area over winter.

The Council will collect any surplus cardboard that is flattened and placed next to the blue bin on its collection day.

The mainland and Cumbrae waste teams will also collect any real Christmas trees that are in sections of five feet or less. Refer to your collection calendar for specified Christmas tree uplift dates at: www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/mybinday

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Green New Deal and Sustainability said: “Our Waste team has worked incredibly hard all year to maintain normal household bin collections for our residents, despite the challenges faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“To allow our crews to get through the collections as quickly as possible and back to their loved ones during the festive season, we ask that you are well organised when it comes to your waste by ensuring you put the right stuff in the right bin and have it out by 7am on your collection day.

“We would like to thank everyone for their recycling efforts during 2021.”
