The public are asked to be aware that Stevenston beach footbridge is temporarily closed until further notice

Posted on 8 Dec 2022

Anyone planning to visit Stevenston Beach should be aware that the footbridge near the car park is closed.

The public cannot currently use the bridge, which was damaged when the water flowing beneath it changed course during a recent period of heavy rainfall.

However, there is another footbridge a short distance away that can be used.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “The bridge is currently closed as a safety precaution and we are investigating the cause of the damage, while also looking into future repair options.

“We are also examining environmental and flooding-related issues in the area as part of this work.

“The advice to anyone visiting the beach is to use the alternative footbridge, which is to the north-west of the one that has been shut off.”
