Telephone and Near Me video consultations

Posted on 18 Mar 2020

All GP Practices and hospitals across Scotland have been asked to increase use of remote consultations by telephone or video. This will mean most people can receive some of their NHS health, care and advice from their own home, to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

  • Telephone will be the first choice, with a step up to:
  • Near Me video consulting where it offers additional clinical benefit
  • Face to face consultations when needed.

The Near Me system was made available to all NHS boards by the Scottish Government’s Technology Enabled Care Programme which invested £1.7 million in 2019/20. Further funding of at least £1.8 million was announced last week to support further roll out including GP practices.
