Roundabout advertising boosting profiles of local businesses

Posted on 13 Sep 2021

A pilot programme to allow advertising on selected North Ayrshire roundabouts is getting under way.

At a time when businesses are seeking to recover from the pandemic, the opportunities are designed to provide new and low-cost opportunities for local companies to promote their organisation.

The initial uptake of the signage has been very promising with more than a dozen local companies benefitting from the initiative, including restaurants, taxi firms, social care, retail and service outlets.

North Ayrshire Council is working in partnership with Marketing Force Ltd on the pilot programme.

This is an opportunity for businesses to gather more support, custom, and brand awareness through advertising to tens of thousands of residents and tourists in North Ayrshire.

The pilot will see advertising slots initially available on 18 roundabouts in Irvine and Kilwinning.

As with any signage, consideration of safety has been priority. The locations have all been audited from a road safety perspective, and the Council’s approach has been informed by the many other local authorities who have introduced roundabout advertising to support their local businesses.

Feedback from the initial pilot locations will be gathered and will inform a review of the approach next year.

Council Leader Joe Cullinane said: “We all know the significant challenges facing local businesses as they emerge from the pandemic, so we have to come up with new ways to support our local economy while at the same time protecting our services.

“We are delighted with the initial response to the scheme by local companies, seeking to build back after the past year.

“Our Community Wealth Building Strategy commits to supporting the regeneration of our communities by maximising all of our land and assets and we hope this pilot programme can help support local businesses after a very difficult year.”
