NORTH Ayrshire Council’s latest major housing development was officially opened today (Monday, 29 April).
The 36-unit Kyleshill Court in Saltcoats – a replacement for the former Canal Court sheltered housing complex - provides high-quality, affordable accommodation for older residents.
As well as being designed to cater for the varying needs of the residents, the homes are energy efficient and reinforce the Council’s continuing commitment to the environment.
As well as solar panels, the properties are fitted with energy efficient boilers, low energy lighting and high-levels of insulation.
Not only is it good for the Council’s carbon footprint, it will help make tenants’ energy bills as low as possible.
There will also be a communal Hub and it is anticipated that classes, tailored to the preferences of the local community, will be on offer.
North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson - who officially opened the £7.1 million complex – said: “I’m proud to be here opening this new development. The quality of these new homes is just fantastic and I’m sure our residents will be extremely settled and happy here.
“In the past few years we have redeveloped a number of sheltered housing complexes across North Ayrshire and the results have been first class – the residents have given us hugely positive feedback on their new surroundings.”
The Council has already delivered hundreds of modern, energy-efficient homes across North Ayrshire and are well on track to build more than 1300 new council homes by 2024.
Kyleshill Court include one and two-bedroom properties and the development was carried out by Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, procured through Hub South West.
Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd Managing Director David Smith said: “This was a great project to be involved in. The collaboration between ourselves, North Ayrshire Council and Hub South West has resulted in something pretty special at Kylehill Court.
“Not only is it a special facility but the wider role benefits to the community and continued pipeline for our local workforce have given us particular satisfaction and a huge element of pride.
“We fully appreciate the opportunities given to us by North Ayrshire Council and Hub South West and the confidence that gives us to continue to make a difference within the area
Michael Mcbrearty, Chief Executive of development partner hub South West added: “The redevelopment of Kyleshill Court is hub South Wests’ first housing project to reach completion, therefore I am delighted to have been able to join with residents and attendees today to celebarte the complex’s official opening.
“We look forward to building upon our housing portfolio with North Ayrshire Council and Ashleigh Scotland Ltd. In the near future.”
