North Ayrshire - More than a business location, a business community

Last week, over 20 potential investors and developers met with the Council, and its key partners, to discuss investment and development opportunities in North Ayrshire.

North Ayrshire Council joined its Team North Ayrshire partners including Scottish Development International and Taste of Arran to share their ambitious plans to transform the local economy.

The breakfast briefing was an opportunity to start the discussions about North Ayrshire’s investment and development prospectus which includes 4 strategic sites:

  • i3 Enterprise Area
  • Hunterston
  • Ardrossan Marine Quarter
  • Irvine Ardeer Great Harbour.

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economy welcomed guests to the event. Mark Newlands, Head of Trade and Investment for Technology & Engineering at Scottish Development International, took to the stage to discuss the role of SDI on inward investment for Scotland. Karen Yeomans, Executive Director of Economy at North Ayrshire Council explained more about the Council’s ambitious plan and potential opportunities. Following the presentations, Alastair Dobson, Managing Director at Taste of Arran led the Q&A session.

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economy, said:  “We have a huge ambition as a Council and have been working with a range of partners to transform our area over the next few years.

“North Ayrshire is more than a business location, it’s a business community and at the heart of this is our unique partnership approach – Team North Ayrshire. Team North Ayrshire consists of the Council working with private partners and a number of public sector and third sector organisations. This approach has helped create 1000 jobs over the 18 months. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved. We believe now is the time to showcase North Ayrshire to an international audience in a bid to attract new businesses, developers and investors.”

Mark Newlands, added: “North Ayrshire has fantastic assets, a strong skills base and a winning business environment that collectively come together to form a compelling proposition for potential international investors.

“By working collaboratively, with key partners through Team North Ayrshire, we will be able to leverage the work SDI carries out at a national and international level and promote the region’s strengths in sectors such as life sciences, aerospace and food and drink to targeted global markets.”

North Ayrshire’s Inward Investment prospectus which will be launched early 2018.
