Over 150 local young people turned out at an event to find out more about North Ayrshire Council’s Modern Apprenticeships.

Staff from across the Council hosted a Modern Apprenticeship recruitment event on Wednesday 27 March at Saltcoats Town Hall.

On the day, a variety of council services, from Procurement to Housing and Professional Cookery to Early Years and Childcare, showcased their service to 16 to 19-year-olds in a bid to secure an MA.

The event forms part of the Council’s approach to offer as many positive employment opportunities as possible to our young people, to support them in the step from education to employment.

Over the last three years, the Council has welcomed 273 young people into its workforce through its ambitious MA programme. The programme offers young people the opportunity to kick-start a career in a variety of fields – from traditional options such as business administration and customer services to those more unique including Civil Engineering and Health & Social Care.

The annual programme launches in conjunction with the end of school term, to provide school leavers with an alternative option if further education is not for them.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 10 April 2019.

Councillor Joe Cullinane, Leader of North Ayshire Council, said: “I am delighted to see so many young people attending the event to find out more about our Modern Apprenticeship programme.  We have a diverse range of opportunities available which offers local young people the chance to learn new skills by gaining a qualification and on the job experience which will further their future careers.”

Former Modern Apprentice and now Assistant Procurement Officer, Raymond Hamilton, said: “The Business Administration Modern Apprenticeship gave me the core skills to develop within the workplace. It is an excellent platform for young people to progress in their desired careers, or to open new doors to other sectors in local government.

“I would recommend this programme to anyone.”
